Planning for 2022?

Here’s a peek at Volleyball Alberta’s 2022 Indoor Tournament Schedule. Locations and venues will be released at a later date as Volleyball Alberta secures additional facilities. This is a tentative schedule and is subject to change without notice. Volleyball Alberta will do its best to update clubs as changes are made and new information is released. We are not responsible for any accommodation issues due to changes.

  • Volleyball Alberta members who are vaccine eligible need to be fully vaccinated or have proof of medical exemption.
  • Refund requests will not be granted if VA or our facilities institute, voluntarily or non-voluntarily (imposed restrictions), additional COVID-19 measures after cancellation deadlines or partway through a program. Volleyball Alberta advises that all vaccine eligible individuals (12+) be fully vaccinated, or have proof of a medical exemption, in advance of registering for any program to reduce potential interruptions to participation.
  • Most of our facilities, either voluntarily or non-voluntarily, are requiring proof of vaccination or medical exemptions for all vaccine eligible individuals (12+) who enter their facilities*
  • If today’s facility entry requirements are still in place during our indoor club season, it will not be possible to compete, coach, attend, or referee at VA events without either being fully vaccinated or medically exempt (testing may still be required).

For more information see the Volleyball Alberta website.

For more information see Vaccination Requirements 2022.

Q & A for 2022 Indoor season

Do we have enough coaches for our teams?

We are happy to say that we have secured coaches for the following age groups:

Girl’s: U18, U17, U16, U15, U14, U13

Boy’s:  U14, U18 (Invermere)

We are still looking to confirm coaches in the following age groups:

Girls U17/18 (Invermere), Boy’s U18, Boy’s U17, Boy’s U16, Boy’s U13

*We are just estimating at this point. The actual number of EKVC teams will be dependant on registration numbers.

Will there be tryouts?

We are going to try and have as few tryouts as possible. If there are more than 14 athletes registered for one age group and the age groups above are also full then we will set up some tryout dates.

For team selection, we will use our technical director’s judgment along with the team coaches.

We will look to move athletes after the first few practices if there is a level discrepancy.

Is there enough gym space for practices and scrimmages?

With the majority of teams requiring proof of vaccination, we are confident that we will have enough gym space for 1.5-2 practices per team each week.

We have access to the College of the Rockies gym on the weekends, KCA (mostly on Saturdays and some random weekday evenings) and can supplement with access to the soccer dome on Sundays which we will use for our younger teams when other spaces are unavailable.

For our Invermere teams we are working to get some weekend practice times at the Columbia Lake Rec Center in Windermere.

Unfortunately, the school board and AQAM are still not open to renting gym space to the public.  We will continue asking for them to reconsider.

Will all age groups be required to provide proof of vaccination?

All teams that are attending VA tournaments will need to provide proof of vaccination to be allowed to join an EKVC team. Age groups of U14 and up will be attending VA tournaments.

U13 practices would be held at the soccer dome or at KCA which do not require proof of vaccination. They will not attend VA tournaments so will be classified as recreational.

What will the fee’s be this year?

The fees will be similar to previous (non-covid) years. We are working on the budget right now and will have registration and fees information prepared in the coming weeks.

This is one area that we are still trying to work out

EKVC is looking for Board members and Volunteers

  • Are you a volleyball player/parent or someone who just loves the game?
  • Are you someone who believes team sport is good for physical and mental health?
  • Can you see yourself helping communities rebound from Covid through team sport?

Our club is looking for new volunteers at both the governance and the program levels of our well-established, growing organization.

We need volunteers in the following areas;

  • 3-7) EKVC Board Members (to promote, plan and lead approximately 3 hrs/month)
  • 5-10) EKVC Committee Members (to raise awareness and resources approximately 4 hrs/month)

NOTE: EKVC personnel are available to orient, train, assist all volunteers

You don't have to have an athlete registered with the Club to help develop the sport of volleyball in the East Kootenays, you just need to be passionate about sport and be committed to advancing and promoting volleyball within the community.

EKVC is looking for a minimum of 3) new board members and at least 5) volunteers to ensure that the Club can offer programs and services seamlessly throughout the year.

Without volunteers, EKVC doesn't have the capacity to provide all the services and programs that athletes currently benefit from such as local and regional tournaments; Athlete Development which includes  strength training, nutrition, yoga and mental toughness;  Awards for Post-secondary students; Fundraising to keep the registrations cost down; Uniforms and equipment;  and many more.

EKVC would love to see alumni, parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles assist with committees such as:

  • Fundraising/Sponsorship,
  • Equipment & Uniforms,
  • Awards and Alumni,
  • Communications (social media, website, email),
  • Events and Tournaments,
  • Volunteer Recruitment,
  • Officiating/Referee,
  • Governance/Policy Development,
  • Nominations & Elections, to name a few.

If you would like more information to become a Board Member, please see open positions and job descriptions here. Send in a Notice of Interest to be considered and added to the ballot.
