Tryout

2025 Indoor Tryout Information

Registration for Tryouts will open October 30, 2024 at 9:00am. To join the EKVC community and teams it is mandatory to participate in tryouts.

Tryouts can be a great experience for new and returning players. The environment established during the tryout process gives players something to look forward to and be excited about. Sports tryouts contribute to the success of individual players, as well as the whole team.

Tryouts will be limited to 30 athletes per age category, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If the category is full, please join the Next Session List. The 9 AM registration start time is not intended to create a rush to fill spots. Registration will remain open for nearly a month, giving everyone ample time to sign up. While we use a first-come, first-served system to manage space and resources, additional sessions will be opened if the first one fills up, ensuring fair access for everyone. See the FAQ section below for more information.

With over 250 athletes trying out over 4 days, it's crucial that families attend the scheduled tryout dates. Due to time and staffing constraints, we are unable to accommodate individual requests for alternate times. Thank you for understanding that we must prioritize the majority of athletes trying out.

Next Session List athletes may be invited to an alternate tryout time or date.

We do our best to provide every athlete the opportunity to participate in EKVC tryouts. When possible, we add additional tryout dates to accommodate demand. However, due to increasing interest and limited resources, we are sometimes unable to place all athletes on teams.

We are committed to growing our capacity and removing these limitations in the coming years, with the goal of creating more opportunities for athletes throughout the region to join and be part of our volleyball community.

How do I know what Age Category to choose?

For EKVC tryouts, we are strictly following **birth year** for age categories, rather than the 16-month window used by Volleyball Canada. This means athletes will try out with others born in the same calendar year.  Please ensure you're registering for the correct age group based on your athlete's birth year. This keeps the process smooth and gives every athlete a fair opportunity!

When do tryouts take place? Detailed information for Tryouts is posted on the website. Typically Tryout registration opens the first week of November or 30 days before the first Tryout date to provide time to register.
When will we hear about tryout results? EKVC understands that waiting for tryout results can be tough, and we work hard to notify every athlete within 7-10 days. If you haven’t received an email within 7-10 days after tryouts, please reach out to us at info@ekvcvolleyball.com
What happens if there isn't a team because there isn't a coach? EKVC works very hard to find coaches for teams but sometimes it just doesn't work out. If that happens, EKVC provides a full refund.
What ages can tryout? EKVC holds tryouts for 13U to 18U, we are strictly following birth year for age categories. If your child(ren) are outside of the birthdate range, we are unable to register them.

Why is there a cap of 30 players per age group for tryout registration? We cap tryout registration to manage space and resources effectively. Once one session fills, we plan to open additional sessions as needed. This approach helps avoid logistical issues like those experienced last year when we had two waves with low attendance in one. The first-come, first-served system allows us to ensure that each session is well-utilized. If you're unable to register right at 9 AM, rest assured that we'll work to provide additional opportunities if sessions fill up.
How are teams decided?

While tryouts are a key part of the evaluation process, they are not the sole factor in team placements. Here’s how we make our decisions:

  1. Comprehensive Evaluation:
When an athlete cannot attend tryouts, we consider their past performance, effort, and commitment during previous seasons, alongside feedback from coaches. If a placement later proves misaligned with their current abilities, adjustments can be made to better support their development.
  2. Positive Experiences and Planning:
We aim to create meaningful opportunities for all athletes, and we recognize that some commitments are planned months in advance. While we strongly encourage attendance at tryouts, unavoidable conflicts are handled on a case-by-case basis.
  3. Fairness and Flexibility:
A single two-hour tryout does not always capture an athlete’s full potential. Therefore, we work to ensure no athlete is penalized for an entire season due to a specific absence or circumstance.
  4. Resources and Constraints:
Our decisions also consider factors such as financial considerations, human resources, and the overall needs of the club. This allows us to provide balanced teams and sustainable programming for all players.

We hope this provides insight into how team placements are made. Please know that all decisions are guided by our commitment to athlete development and the values of our club.

Why does registration open at 9 AM, and will I miss out if I can’t register right away? The 9 AM registration start time is not intended to create a rush to fill spots. Registration will remain open for nearly a month, giving everyone ample time to sign up. While we use a first-come, first-served system to manage space and resources, additional sessions will be opened if the first one fills up, ensuring fair access for everyone.
What happens if a tryout is full?

There is a link for a Next Session List. Tryouts are first come, first serve for each age category. If the age category has reached it's maximum of 30 athletes, fill out the waitlist so you can be contacted about next steps.

Is there a tryout registration deadline?

Registration closes 3 days before the date of the tryout. We are sorry you missed out, but we can not accommodate late registrations. You can still be a part of EKVC the infographic below will share with you how.
How are teams chosen? Can I request a team to play on? The club uses a clear and fair tryout process to give every athlete an equal chance to join a team. Player strengths, skill development needs, and position requirements are the main factors in team placement. Sometimes, athletes may be placed in an older or younger age group to better support their growth and ensure a positive experience for the season.
What should I do if the registration link isn't working and it's already past 9am? Tech Tip: If the registration link isn't working, it's a good idea to refresh your browser or clear your cache to access the most up-to-date information. The website is updated regularly, so this can help ensure you're seeing the latest details. If the problem persists, please try again later.
What if we are away during tryouts? It's important for an athlete's name to be recorded so the club can identify them as an athlete looking for placement on a team.  If someone can not attend a tryout, they need to be added to the Next Session List and include a note explaining their need for special consideration. Be sure to include availability dates to help the club determine options for the athlete, which could include trying out with a different age group.

We're committed to finding a solutions for athletes to continue their volleyball journey with us!
If our age group tryout is in Golden, does that mean practices will also be in Golden? Yes! Practice locations for each age group depend on where coaches are available. If you tryout in Golden then practice will be held in Golden. If you tryout in Invermere for your age group then practices will be in Invermere.
