FAQs

What is the practice schedule for our team?

The practice schedule is still pending approval from the School District for gym availability in late December. We anticipate 1-2 weekday practices and 1 weekend session, though this is not guaranteed. All teams will be notified once the finalized schedule is confirmed.

When are the tournaments? For information regarding upcoming tournaments, please see above link 2025 Volleyball Alberta Indoor Tournament Dates.
How are teams designated? The team designations are as follows: Blue Team, White Team, and Green Team. For more details, please refer to the club handbook.
When do we find out about team placement?

Team invitations are being staggered as we fill the roster, and invitations will be sent out between December 10th and 15th. Please note that each invitation comes with a 24-hour window to respond. In some cases, the clock may be reset due to lack of response or refusal of an invitation. We appreciate your patience during this process.

What does a Red Shirt player mean?

A red shirt player is  someone who has the opportunity to train with the team, develop their abilities, and stay engaged in the sport, even if they don’t compete in tournaments. Tournaments are certainly an exciting part of volleyball, but they’re just one component of overall athlete development. At EKVC, we emphasize that practice makes progress—consistent, focused practice is where athletes refine their skills, build confidence, and grow their potential for future opportunities.

Is there anything available to the athletes that couldn't be placed on a team? We’re excited to offer a new opportunity through our 2025 EKVC Elevate Program! We recognize that many athletes have put in significant effort and are eager to grow their skills. Unfortunately, due to limited gym space and other considerations, we aren’t able to place everyone on a team.

The intention of the Elevate program is to ensure those who couldn’t be placed on a team still have the chance to develop their skills, grow their love for the sport, and stay connected with their volleyball community.

To gauge interest in this pilot program we ask that families fill out the Interest for Elevate Program – EKVC 2025 Indoor Season form for families of unplaced athletes. Your input will help shape the program and ensure its success.

Understanding Your Investment in Youth Volleyball

As a parent, you want the best for your child, and you understand the value of investing in their development, both on and off the volleyball court. Enrolling your child in youth volleyball at EKVC (East Kootenay Volleyball Club) not only fosters their physical skills but also instills important life lessons such as teamwork, discipline, and dedication. To ensure transparency and clarity, we've broken down the costs associated with youth volleyball registration, helping you understand what you're playing for and what your child will receive in return.

1. Recreation Fees (January to April/May):

  • Age Categories: 13U-18U
  • Practices: 1.5 - 2-hour sessions, age dependent

What's Included:

  • Athlete Development: Focused training to enhance your child's volleyball skills.
  •  Gym & Facility Rental: Access to facilities with medium to high ceilings for safe and effective practice.
  • Technical Director: Experienced leadership to guide the club and support player development.
  •  Coaches & Managers Honorarium, Accreditation, and Police Checks: Ensuring qualified coaches and screened managers for your child.

  • Cleaning and Disinfecting Supplies: Prioritizing health and safety during uncertain times.
  •  Administration Fee: Managing the club's operations efficiently.

2. Volleyball Alberta and Volleyball Canada Youth Development Player Fees:

  • These fees are non-refundable and cover participation in the broader youth sport programs of Volleyball Alberta and Volleyball Canada.

3. Tournaments and Travel

Tournaments organized by Volleyball Alberta are usually held in Calgary and Edmonton.

It's important to note that tournament travel, accommodation, and registration for the team are not included in the EKVC fees. Families can expect tournament travel costs to vary, ranging from $1,250 to $2,000 for the season if they plan to attend all five tournaments, which includes four premier tournaments and one national tournament. These costs cover expenses such as transportation, lodging, and tournament registration fees.

By enrolling your child in EKVC's youth volleyball program, you're investing in their personal growth, athletic development, and overall well-being. We are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for your child to thrive in the sport of volleyball. We look forward to having you and your child as part of the EKVC community!
